COMPLEX MEDICAL SURGICAL CONDITIONS: AN EVIDENCE-BASED NURSINGMANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS
Abstract
Complex medical surgical conditions present significant challenges in healthcare due to their multifactorial nature, high risk of complications, and the need for coordinated multidisciplinary management. Evidencebased nursing management plays a critical role in improving patient outcomes by integrating current scientific knowledge, clinical expertise, and patient-centered care practices. This paper explores the nursing management of patients with complex medical surgical conditions, including cardiovascular disorders, neurological emergencies, trauma, sepsis, renal failure, and post-operative complications. It emphasizes comprehensive assessment, early identification of clinical deterioration, timely interventions, and continuous monitoring as essential components of effective nursing care. The role of evidence-based protocols in pain management, infection prevention, wound care, fluid and electrolyte balance, respiratory support, and prevention of complications is highlighted. Additionally, the importance of patient education, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, and interdisciplinary collaboration is discussed to ensure holistic care delivery. Technological advancements such as electronic health records, clinical decision support systems, and advanced monitoring tools have further strengthened evidence-based nursing practices in managing critically ill patients. The study concludes that evidence-based nursing management enhances clinical decision-making, promotes patient safety, reduces morbidity and mortality, and improves quality of life for patients with complex medical surgical conditions. Continuous professional education and adherence to updated clinical guidelines are essential for maintaining high standards of nursing practice
