Abstract

Real-time patient monitoring systems have emerged as a critical innovation in modern healthcare, particularly for managing high-risk emergency cases. These systems combine wearable sensors, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud computing to enable continuous monitoring of vital physiological parameters such as heart rate, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. By ensuring uninterrupted data collection and analysis, they facilitate early detection of patient deterioration, allowing timely medical intervention and significantly improving survival rates. In emergency settings such as intensive care units (ICUs), trauma centers, and remote healthcare environments, these systems enhance clinical decision-making by providing accurate, real-time insights into patient conditions. Furthermore, AI-driven predictive analytics can identify subtle patterns in patient data, enabling proactive rather than reactive care. Despite their advantages, challenges such as alarm fatigue, data security concerns, and system interoperability must be addressed for optimal implementation. This article provides a comprehensive overview of real-time patient monitoring systems, focusing on their architecture, components, alert mechanisms, applications, benefits, and limitations. It also highlights future advancements, including smart healthcare ecosystems and personalized monitoring solutions.
