Abstract

Pain management is a crucial component of medical-surgical nursing that significantly influences patient recovery, satisfaction, and overall clinical outcomes. Effective pain control begins with accurate and comprehensive assessment, which enables healthcare professionals to understand the nature, intensity, and impact of pain on the patient’s well-being. The use of evidence-based interventions ensures that pain is managed using the most current and effective strategies, integrating both pharmacological treatments such as analgesics and non-pharmacological approaches like relaxation techniques and cognitive support. This combined approach helps in reducing pain intensity, preventing complications, and promoting faster recovery while enhancing the overall quality of care provided to patients. Nurses play a vital role in the successful implementation of pain management strategies, as they are directly involved in patient care through continuous assessment, timely intervention, and evaluation of outcomes. Their ability to apply both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods ensures a holistic and patient-centred approach to care, addressing not only physical discomfort but also emotional and psychological needs. This article focuses on contemporary approaches to pain management, particularly in surgical and deliveryrelated settings, where effective pain control is essential for improving patient outcomes, supporting recovery, and enhancing patient satisfaction.
