Abstract

Libraries contain a large number of books, and managing these books can be difficult and timeconsuming. Traditional book return and sorting systems require library staff to check books, record their information, and place them on the correct shelves. When many books are returned at the same time, this process becomes slow and there is also a chance of mistakes. RFID technology can make this work easier and faster. RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. In this system, a small RFID tag is attached to each book. The tag contains a unique identification number that is connected to the book's information in the library database. When a book is returned, an RFID reader can read the tag and identify the book automatically. After identifying the book, the computer system checks the database and finds where the book should go. Conveyor belts, sorting machines, chutes, and bins can then move the book to the correct location. This reduces manual work and saves time for library staff. RFID systems can also support self-service book returns and help libraries keep track of books. However, RFID systems also have some disadvantages. The equipment can be expensive, RFID tags can be damaged, and the system needs regular maintenance. A correct and updated database is also necessary for the system to work properly. This paper explains the basic working of RFID-based book sorting and return systems, their main advantages, challenges, and possible future developments.
