Impact of RFID (radio frequency identification) on libraryservices: A study

Abstract

The development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has made library services more efficient, secure, and user-oriented. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a modern technology widely used in libraries for identifying library materials, book circulation (issue and return), security, and inventory management. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of RFID technology on library services. The study reveals that the implementation of RFID improves the speed and efficiency of library operations, reduces manual labor, minimizes book theft, and enhances user satisfaction. However, the technology also presents challenges, including high installation costs and ongoing maintenance requirements.
